1. Morning Route: Museom Village, an Island on Land Embraced by a River
The most relaxed way to open a Yeongju trip is with a morning walk in Museom Village in Munsu-myeon to the south. Here the Naeseongcheon Stream wraps 350 degrees around three sides of the village, earning it the name 'island floating on water' (Sudo-ri), and its symbol is a 150 m single-log bridge that winds across the silvery sandbank.
Carefully cross the single-log bridge and walk the village lanes, lined with traditional houses hundreds of years old such as Haeudang and Manjukjae, and you'll feel a peace as if time had stopped. Visit in the morning and you can take clean photos on the single-log bridge without waiting.

Yeohaenggak editor's tip After Museom Village, head up toward downtown Yeongju or Punggi and have a Hanwoo beef lunch at Yeongju Cheongjeong Hanwoo Butcher Restaurant or Chuksan Main Branch Butcher Restaurant, and your route fits together perfectly.
2. Afternoon Route: Sosu Seowon and Seonbichon, Walking Through a Thousand-Year Forest of Scholar Pines
After a hearty lunch, head to Sosu Seowon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Sunheung-myeon. The moment you enter the academy, you're greeted by the 'Hakjasurim' (Scholar Tree Forest), where hundreds of red pines hundreds of years old stand densely together, and the clear sound of the Jukgyecheon Stream.
At Seonbichon, which continues right beyond the walls of Sosu Seowon, you can stroll a complex of old houses where the region's representative head-family houses, tile-roofed houses and thatched houses have been restored to their original form, and if you're with kids, you can also enjoy digital experiences of hanbok, Korean food and hanok at Seonbi World, the K-culture theme park right next door.

Yeohaenggak editor's tip The Sosu Seowon ticket office connects directly to Seonbichon via an internal wooden bridge, so park just once and see both together.
3. Sunset Route: The Sobaeksan Glow Seen From the Entasis Columns of Buseoksa's Muryangsujeon Hall
The climax of a Yeongju trip is Buseoksa Temple on Bonghwangsan, which you climb as the sun begins to sink in the west. The 108-step stone-terrace path from Iljumun Gate through Cheonwangmun Gate, the Bell Pavilion and Anyangnu Pavilion to Muryangsujeon Hall, a National Treasure, opens up your view the higher you climb, revealing an architectural aesthetic that makes you set down your worldly worries.
Stand in the courtyard in front of Muryangsujeon Hall and look out past Anyangnu, and the ridges of Sobaeksan and the Taebaek Mountains spread out faintly, wave after wave. The sight of the golden sunset coloring the ridgelines at dusk makes you understand at once why so many travelers name Buseoksa the finest mountain temple in Korea.

Yeohaenggak editor's tip An uphill path runs from Buseoksa's Iljumun Gate to Muryangsujeon Hall, and in autumn the ginkgo-lined path turns yellow and becomes even more spectacular.
