1. The Bukhangang River Duo for Walking on River Islands: Gapyeong's Jara Island vs. Chuncheon's Nami Island
Gapyeong and Chuncheon are neighbors across the Bukhangang River, so they're easy to combine or to choose between based on taste. Gapyeong's Jara Island brings together wide lawns, riverside trails, Jara Island Ihwawon (a greenhouse garden open in every season) and Jara Island Campground, so you can enjoy a relaxed riverside picnic with nothing more than a picnic mat. When you crave forest, Kalbongsan Natural Recreation Forest or the valleys of Hyeondeungsan (Unaksan) offer a deep dose of phytoncides.
In Chuncheon, the metasequoia-lined avenue and riverside trails of Nami Island, reached by boat, create picture-perfect scenery all year round. Add Deungseon Falls, which flows between the rock formations of Samaksan Mountain, and Gongjicheon Recreation Area in downtown Chuncheon, and you have a day that lets you enjoy water and forest in full dimension.

Yeohaenggak editor's tip A cross-border course that pairs a morning walk on Nami Island with Gapyeong's Jara Island and a dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken) restaurant in the afternoon is also popular.
2. Botanical Gardens Deep in the Forest vs. a Futuristic Waterfront Park by the Sea: Yongin vs. Incheon
If you prefer dense forests and themed gardens to riversides, Yongin shines. The options are very broad: Yongin Natural Recreation Forest, with well-kept lawns and forest walking decks; Hantaek Botanical Garden, which grows thousands of native and exotic plant species in themed gardens; and the Korean Folk Village and Yongin Dae Jang Geum Park, where traditional houses and performances come alive.
Incheon, on the other hand, is made for a 'city + sea' day trip: take a boat along the Songdo Central Park canal, built by drawing in seawater, to admire the futuristic skyline, or walk Jayu Park and the Open Port streets next to Chinatown and finish with seasonal seafood at Sorae Port.

Yeohaenggak editor's tip If you want barrier-free, flat walks that are easy for kids or older travelers, we recommend Songdo Central Park in Incheon or Yongin Rural Theme Park first.
3. A Seawater Canal in the City and West Sea Sunsets: Songdo Central Park, Incheon
If you'd rather enjoy a polished waterside promenade, cafés and boat rides all at once instead of forest trails in Gangwon-do or outer Gyeonggi, Incheon's Songdo Central Park is the easiest choice. Flat trails run along a 1.8 km canal filled with water drawn from the sea, and you can take in the exotic skyline from a water taxi or a moon boat.
Exit Central Park Station on Incheon Subway Line 1 and you're connected straight to the park entrance, giving it the best public transit access of the four cities. Spend the day on waterside walks and the National Museum of World Writing Systems, then move to Solchan Park or the Open Port area at dusk to watch the West Sea sunset, and you have a day trip that leaves nothing wanting.

Yeohaenggak editor's tip Some stretches of the Central Park seawater canal trail have little shade, so on clear days we recommend visiting in the late afternoon and staying on for the sunset and night views.
